The recycling rules have changed. Does your business comply?
Since 31 March 2025, most businesses in England must separate food waste and dry recycling from their general waste. It’s called Simpler Recycling, and it applies to almost every workplace.
What your business must do
Separate food waste
All food waste must go in its own bin and be collected separately — however little you produce. That includes leftovers, tea bags and coffee grounds.
Separate dry recycling
Paper and card, plastic, metal and glass must be kept out of your general waste and collected for recycling.
It applies to almost everyone
Shops, offices, cafés, pubs, schools, care homes — if your business has 10 or more full-time employees, the rules already apply to you. Smaller businesses follow from March 2027.
The good news
- A food waste collection is usually cheaper per bin than general waste.
- Splitting out food waste often shrinks your general waste bill.
- We can set it all up for you — bins, collections and the paperwork.
- If you already have a food waste bin, we can check you're not overpaying for it.
